Tsugaru Offshore Energy GK, guided by the philosophy “Tsugaru’s Wind, Japan’s Power – Connecting People and the Future from Here,” aims to contribute to both the local and national economy, while supporting Japan’s goal of carbon neutrality by 2050, through offshore wind projects located in the Sea of Japan offshore Aomori Prefecture (southern side of the prefecture).

In December 2024, a consortium consisting of JERA Co., Inc., Green Power Investment Corporation, and Tohoku Electric Power Co., Inc. was selected as the operator for this offshore wind project under the Act on Promoting the Utilization of Sea Areas for the Development of Marine Renewable Energy Power Generation Facilities. The project is currently being developed by our company.

The project site is blessed with abundant wind resources, and with a planned generating capacity of 615 MW, it will be Japan’s largest fixed-bottom offshore wind project. Offshore wind power is a large-scale and sustainable electricity generation method that maximizes Japan’s abundant wind resources, playing a crucial role in achieving the country’s goal of carbon neutrality by 2050. Through this project, we aim not only to produce renewable energy, but also to further revitalize Aomori and Japan by supporting fisheries, regional growth, job creation, and human resource development.

We recognize that such a major goal can only be achieved through close collaboration with industry partners and local communities. From development and construction through to commercial operation in June 2030, we will work together, sharing knowledge and experience to bring this project to fruition. Throughout the development and construction period leading up to the start of commercial operation in June 2030, as well as during subsequent operations, we will fulfill our responsibility as the project developer by exchanging knowledge and experience with all stakeholders, working closely together, and building this project as one.
